The below Excel spreadsheet contains the equations for the NEMA components (NEMAC), in cells G8,H8,I8, and J8.

In column K a check is made of the components to verify that their sum is less than 0.5 contracts from the volume total.

The column K "CK" equation is: " =IF(E8-(G8+H8+I8+J8)<0.5,"",E8-(G8+H8+I8+J8))." If the total of the 4 components is less than 0.5 contracts, a blank is output and the components are good..  If greater than 0.5 contracts, the data is bad and all inputs must be checked.  For example, K8 is blank because:

         19263 - (3115+6646+6117+3385) = 0.

The story of the development of the NEMA component equations is documented in the October, 2011 issue of Technical Analysis of STOCKS & COMMODITIES, Volume 29, titled "Net Effective Market Activity," by Frank Suler.  The above specific component equations are contained in that reference.  The above "calcNEMA.xls" spreadsheet is available from the webmaster.
